I don't know. Is Fuller's London Porter or New Glarus Raspberry Tart a high
gravity beer?

From what I glance, aside from some lambics and New Glarus fruit beers, and
maybe a few stouts, there's nothing on that list that I wouldn't consider
high gravity. There are a few doppelbocks on there, Trappists and Baltic
porters, so not everything's a hopfest.

And, if I counted correctly, I've had 65 off the list. Whee.

Well, geez, I didn't know this was going to turn into
a dick-wagging contest.

But... I've only had 25 of ratebeer's top 50.

It didn't, but in an emoticon-free world, there was no obvious
add-on in the form of a ":-/" or ":-|" needed.

And I don't get to various bits of flyover country or out-of-the
way locales to bother with much of whatever dopey-ass craft beers
I haven't tried, either. Pleny of them in my own backyard, thanks
just the same. The New Beer Provincialism is alive and well.

Have had 29 of their top 50, 46 of their top 100.

Aside from the high grav stuff, RB's top 50 biases towards the obscure and
hard to find stuff.
e.g. Dieu du Ciel, Barrel Aged Speedway, Free State, Dave (not on the list
anymore but was for a time).

Of course I really want to try that Danish double IPA.

Yeah, I noticed that. I only got to 25 becuase of stuff
like the Cuvee du Tommi I had at GABF.

But that sort of bias for such lists was the impetous
behind my original good-natured quip on the topic.

I can claim 50 for certain, 8 where I'd have to check the exact
label/vintage/version (Belgians).

But of course, that's the 100 list as of 2 PM EDT 28-10-2004.

So what do I win?

If Shite rings in at 77 and "Ow!" Jackson at 65, I gotta say I
detect some bias. I'm familiar with the aforementioned
fuckwit's beer-travel budgets, and with a 71 average, I gotta
say "IN with the red currants!" No...wait, that's not it...

That said, great web site Jason. Always has been.

BTW, where's the Top 100? Can't find it...Is chicha on the
list? Given a good URL, I'm gonna call my shot at around 40.

Geez, Spot, you'd know from experience, but you haven't been up
north to this neck o' the woods in, like, forever. Howcumzat,
hah?

BTW, guess which company finally lost all sense of perspective

A statement of fact from the Señor. Part of the reason is that the
familial subunits-in-law moved from the Land de Port to one of the
southern shithole states. The other part is that we finally became
parents. I'm so fucking happy I could kiss *you* square on the ass.
And yes, you *can* take a picture. Interesting story, that (the kid, I
mean). Email me or Ow, but frankly I am not thinking about visiting
Señor Shite. Hell, I'm having trouble committing to a "day of
debauchery" with Ow. My vacation for the entire year: Not Portland,
not Seattle, not Belgian [sic], not A City by a Bay, not even Cancun,
but 3 days and 2 nights at Disneyland.

In any case...It's entirely possible we will be up at the Skagit cabins
next summer. If so, I guarantee you will be inflicted (afflicted?)
even if you have to come get me.

Jurene's still proximate, though. Mmmm...Jurene...

And I did see The Lord recently. That was a good thing.

Yes I am a big ball of quiche. But have *you* been to Lucky Baldwin's?
Worth the trip, especially during one o' their Festivals (IPA, Belgian,
Barleywine...) I recommend the Belgian. San Diego is also worth
visiting beer-wise (and other-wise too). Think on it.

Your serve.

Oi! I'll have to check my respectometer to put a hard number on the
full damage, but I can just feel that it swung hard to anti-clockwise.
Err...I assume they're paying you well, so that just makes you a slut
(ala Piraat?) Which I *can* respect...

D'oh!...The above is off topic. Sorry 'bout that...

Eh, don't sell yourself short. At least 42.
I have a funny feeling that I have to sign up to get to some areas of
the site (probably wrong, sure), but a search for "top 100" yields
nothing as does "100 list". A search for "100" leads to all kinds of
interesting stuff I don't have time to investigate. A search for
"lucky baldwin" also yields nothing, but a google search leads to Lucky
Baldwin's reviews at beeradvocate.com. So go figure...

Ah, there's the trick! google search for "beeradvocate top 100".

Hey Jason, what's up with *that*?

So...Haven't had the Speedway Stout. Haven't seen it, either. I'll
have to look that one up.

Three Floyds...I've never had anything from Das Floyden. Not Alpha
King, not nothin'. Dammit.

Double Bastard? Number 21? Not quite twice as horrid as Arrogant
Bastard but close. And AB is a beer that itself sucks cock in the
shithouse for nickels.

Arrogant Bastard and Double Bastard both finish higher than Westmalle
Tripel!? You want a great big mess of a beer - a stupid homebrewer
trick gone bad? Not only do you have it, but you have a choice of more
than one from a single brewery. Go figure. Wallow in your pigsty of a
beer if you want. Feh.

AB/DB make the list but Brutal Bitter doesn't? The famed one-off OBF
dry-hopped Brutal Bitter doesn't make it?

Seriously - someone is fucking me, right?. I think the Bastards must
be the Flavor of the Day. Double Bastard finishes 57 places higher
than Westmalle Tripel? The best thing about either of the Bastards is
the bottle, but both finish higher than one of the world's greatest
beers, arguably the archetype Tripel. Huh?

But then, Guinness yellow label is (still) on the list but A. Steam is
not - some updating is in order, methinks. Hey Labatt: You suck.

Rochefort 10 (#11) finishes (much) higher than Rochefort 8 (#37)?
Nope, sorry, not on board with that.

R8 is tastier, more complex than R10.

Bigger is better. Got it. Don't agree with it, but I got it.

Glad to se LaConner made the list. That is a Good Place as far as I'm
concerned.

Total...total...total...56[*].

I got some tough ones (for me) thanks to friends on the East Coast and
in Ohio, a recent trip to D.C., and others who travel to Belgium
(Neither Shite nor Jackson have ever brought me an actual beer from
Over There, or Elsewhere for that matter. Therefore, they both suck
and fall not into the friends-that-have-brought-me-beer category.)

Finally, I note with much glee that Orval is not on the list. Of
course, the list includes other (aforementioned) highly crapulent
beers, so insert grain of salt here. And yet, the absence of Orval
gladdens my heart.

Hey, it's a beauty contest (Is Bo Derek really a '10'?) Stone is a
good brewery making good products, but the Bastards are just bad beers.
Not "good", not "ok", not "mediocre". "Bad."

Err...

I don't find the beeradvocate site terribly useful (personal opinion
only), but there is a LOT of work there, the advertizing is minimal,
and, frankly, it's a hell of a job. I may quibble with some of the
details, but I am impressed.

Oh, and apologies for the "beer porn" thing. "Must've been high."

Qualifications (I'm going to claim 32, 56, and 70 for a total of 59 -
but then, if I can't actually remember, it probably shouldn't

16 Abbaye des Rocs Brasserie de l'Abbaye des Rocs s.a.
I've had an Abbaye des Rocs something. White label with red script,
right? If this good, you'd think I'd remember...
32 India Pale Ale (Dry Hopped / Bottleworks) LaConner Brewing
Company
I've had an IPA at the pub (GREAT pub). Dry hopped? I think "yes",
but...
56 Oud Beersel Oude Kriek Vieille Brouwerij Oud Beersel
I've had the distinct pleasure of Oud Beersel Kriek. "Oude Kriek
Vieille"? Dunno. Like Hanssens, had nothing but a pink "white"-wash
mark (a single slash in this case). Hand-carried from the brewery by a
real friend (the brewer was annoyed by the interruption). A TREMENDOUS
beer.
69 Sinebrychoff Porter Sinebrychoff Brewery
Pretty sure I had this in the same sitting with the Okocim. I remember
the Oko', but...there was at least one other Baltic Porter, and I don't
remember it either.
70 St. Bernardus Tripel Brouwerij St. Bernardus NV 4.27 133
